Question by just “JR”: Why can’t people understand that a website is NOT the universal panacea for success?
I keep reading, day after day, “I have wonderful website for my business, but I am not getting orders”.
Can’t people realise that their fabulous website is just one single entry in a “phone book” of BILLIONS entries?
Can’t they realise that to SELL, you have to plan a Marketing Strategy, have a budget allocated to it, and that your “website” is ONLY a small part of it??? Or do people have NO IDEA about how to run a business??
“I had a site developed on-the-cheap, but I don’t get business. Why not?”
“I have only about 50 visitors a month! Why not more?”
“I have spent $ 500 in SEO expertise, and got only a few more visitors. Why not more?”
“I have made a blog. Why don’t I have followers?”
“My business is going down the drain. Would a website resurect it?”
Why are people SO NAIVE?
If that is the case, HOW can we open people’s mind to REALITY?

Because people believe that the internet is the ultimate selling tool. They believe that the fact the playing field is “level” that they will have success, just as much as eBay. I design websites and I tell clients that you are selling the experience. To have a successful website, you need good design, SEO, advertising, and a bit of luck.

I think marketing is about research and measuring and i love internet marketing because you can measure virtually all the variables when you are promoting a site – who visits it, how often, where they come from, how old they are, where they have vacations etc. I love the field because it gives me control and answers to many questions about my audience. The problem is that many companies do not know how or where to get the data when it comes to website marketing.
